Austrias Janko to miss Romania match
Striker Marc Janko will miss Austrias World Cup qualifying match against Romania on April 1 because of exhaustion.
The 25-year-old Red Bull Salzburg striker scored his 33rd goal of the season against Austria Vienna on Sunday but was substituted in the second half after complaining about dizziness.
Janko suffers from a persistent cold and has been taking antibiotics over the last couple of days, the Austrian football federation said in a statement. He is physically extremely exhausted. To avoid medical risks, he wont play for the national team.
Austria coach Dietmar Constantini, who took over from Karel Bruckner earlier this month, called up Austria Vienna forward Rubin Okotie as a replacement.
Constantini also added Rapid Vienna defender Andreas Dober to his 23-man squad after Hoffenheims Andreas Ibertsberger tore ligaments in his right knee Saturday and was ruled out for at least six weeks.
Austria has four points from as many games in World Cup qualifying Group 7 and is almost certain to miss out on next years tournament in South Africa. It plays Romania at the Woerthersee Arena in Klagenfurt.
