What are the cheaper travel destinations in Europe

I am planning a European trip for pleasure at the end of April. In the past I have traveled fairly extensively in Europe, including studying abroad in France and living in Austria for a year. I have not traveled, however, in the past 10 years, and I don’t know how much has changed. Part of my itinerary is set (visiting friends in Paris and Munich), but I’m looking at adding in another excursion, preferably somewhere where I can really stretch my dollar. I know that Prague used to be a great place to travel cheaply, but I hear this is not as true as it once was. What are my best bets for an interesting destination with inexpensive hotels and restaurants? Fun problem to have, huh?

Unfortunately anywhere that uses the Euro has become very expensive. We noticed this when the French changed from the Franc to the Euro……overnight prices went through the roof. The same happened in Greece, it was once a cheap destination but not any more. I would suggest Turkey though not technicaly in Europe it is where a lot of us go to because our money buys more than at home. The UK where i live wisely stayed out of the Euro and didnt suffer like the rest of europe but we have traditionaly not been a cheap place for Americans to visit.
