Levet needs surgery on broken leg, out of British Open

Thomas Levets exuberant celebrations after winning his home tournament in France last weekend have cost him a place in the British Open.
Levet withdrew Wednesday from the years third major after being ruled out for six weeks with a broken shin, sustained when jumping into a lake to celebrate his victory at the French Open on Sunday.
The former Ryder Cup players place goes to Robert Garrigus of the United States.
The 42-year-old Levet said, “I am extremely disappointed to miss out on the Open Championship, but my specialist has advised me to have an operation on the fracture.”
Colin Montgomerie said Wednesday that jumping into greenside lakes in celebration “is the silliest things that players have done over the years.”
